The Best & the Worst of Gunsmoke The Best!!!

4. The Noose

September 21, 1970, Written by Arthur Browne, Directed by Vincent McEveery, Guest Cast: Tom Skerritt, William Fawcett

Fred Garth returns to Dodge after 15 years. He was a young boy when he left. Garth tricks Kitty, Festus, Doc and Matt to Old Dodge - now a ghost town - and locks them in the old jail. He wants to hurt them. But why? What are his plans? Why Kitty, Festus, Doc and Matt? Tom Skerritt gives a masterful performance as the haunted young man Fred Garth. His calm reasoned insanity radiates.

Tension builds as Matt is shackled helplessly to a post and his friend is placed on a horse with a secured noose about their neck. The horse's rump is slapped.

The ending of this episode is unforgettable.
