Ed Nelson was primarily a TV actor although he got his start in films working with director Roger Corman. He was best known for his role on the TV series "Peyton Place." Tall, lean and handsome with a "white collar" type look he was versatile enough to play in westerns and other genres. He was born Edwin Nelson on December 21, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up there and in North Carolina. He attended college to study law but became entranced with acting and directing in his sophomore year. He left for New York in 1952 where he attended the School of Radio Technique and then returned to New Orleans where he worked at local radio and television stations. It was there where he met Roger Corman when he came to Louisiana to film "Swamp Women." He began a working relationship with Corman where he became involved with all aspects of filming. He worked in films with Corman all through the late 1950s. His film debut was in "Swamp Women" (1955) as Police Sergeant. His other film credits include: "Teenage Doll" (1957) as Police Officer 'Dutch'; "Invasion of the Saucer Men" (1957) as 1st Boy; "Carnival Rock" (1957) as Cannon the Lawyer; "Bayou" (1957) as Etienne; "Attack of the Crab Monsters" (1957) as Ensign Quinlan, he also played a crab; the very camp "Teenage Cave Man" (1958) with Robert Vaughn, as Blonde Tribe Member; "The Brain Eaters" (1958) as Dr. Paul; "The Young Captives" (1959) as Norm Britt; "Soldier in the Rain" (1963) with Steve McQueen, as an M.P.; "The Man from Galveston" (1963) as Cole Marteen; "Airport 1975" (1974) as Maj. Alexander; "Midway" (1976) as Adm. Harry Pearson; "For the Love of Benji" (1977) as Chandler Dietrich; "Acapulco Gold" (1978) as Hollister; "Brenda Starr" (1989) as Pres. Harry Truman; "The Boneyard" (1991) as Jersey Callum and "There's Something About Mary" (1998) as Jailbird. On TV he was a regular on the series: "Peyton Place" (1964-69) as Dr. Michael Rossi; "The Silent Force" (1970-71) as Ward Fuller; "Doctors' Private Lives" (1979) as Dr. Michael Wise and "Capitol" (1982) as Sen. Mark Denning. He also appeared in TV Movies including: "The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything" (1980); "Born to be Sold" (1981) and "Sworn to Silence" (1987). He also guest starred on many series including: "Gunsmoke"; "Rawhide"; "The Rebel"; "Black Saddle"; "The Untouchables"; "Maverick"; Wagon Train"; "The Fugitive"; "The Outer Limits"; "Combat"; "Perry Mason"; "Mission: Impossible"; "The Rockford Files"; "CHiPs"; "MacGyver" and "Murder, She Wrote."
